This a new flatshare! We've joined together with the idea of finding that precious and rare commodity in Berlin - a living room - so we can play board games, watch films, and enjoy each other's company without being closed off in separate rooms! So this is definitely not a functional flatshare.
Although we initially aimed to find something within the Ringbahn, viewing this place and the quality of life it promises (rich people life for cheap!) has changed things. We are now extremely keen to find our third person so we can apply as asap as possible ;)
There are three bedrooms in total. The largest includes an en-suite bathroom, per the floor plan attached. The other two rooms are on the smaller side (11-12m2 or so) but absolutely serviceable for a double bed and some small furniture, with the living being done in the thusly-named room with a gorgeous view! There's a storage room we can share as well. The large terrace overlooks the Havel, gorgeously.
The cost of the place in total is a ridiculous bargain 1.299 cold, 1.649 warm, and probably another 100 or so once you tack on electricity and good wifi. So, off the top of my head, 500-500-750 all included seems like a good split, though we can negotiate with each other :)
Note that the flat is unfurnished, so there will be some costs involved getting it set up. We'll need to install a kitchen, get ourselves a nice table, and if you're interested we could go evens on a canoe for summer! As you'll be forming the flatshare with us, you'll have just as much say in all the decisions to make an awesome new home. I'll be bringing a 40" TV and a PC with a stupid number of games for us to play, so at least that is sorted :) All costs will of course be repaid if you ever move out and someone takes your place. The deposit for the flat is the usual 3x cold rent, so about 1115 or 1671 euros if we did it according to the aforementioned split.
Obviously a bit on the remote side, but honestly not too bad, and well worth it for the quality of life around nature while still being able to get into the city easily.
There are bus stops about 13 minutes' walk north and south to take you into the city. I took the one down south on my viewing and they're regular (with the all-important electronic display!). A few stops later and you're on the Ringbahn at Messe Nord or S Westend. That journey is about 12 minutes. So 25 minutes, not bad!
There's a big Netto at the south bus stop, a REWE near the north one, for those convenient on-your-way-home shops. There's a Penny that's closer to the flat as well, about 6 minutes' walk west.
The walk south is incredible, alongside the river and a small lake. There's so much nature here. It'd be an amazing place to live.
I'm David, 31, from England, and I work in data analysis for the music industry. Aside from board games, I'm a huge film nerd, Liverpool FC fan, generally passionate about music, video games, and usually have some creative project on the go. I'm gradually learning German, but English is definitely the preferred language!
Carla, 22, is from Germany but lived in Australia for many years. She's come to Berlin to study her Masters in Sustainable Building Planning. She really likes board and video games as well. She brings her small cat Miffy who is 1, non-destructive but very keen for attention and rather adorable (see picture). Carla is quite keen on the en-suite room! But we can discuss it :)
Our availability to move in so soon seems to have given us an edge. I will be sending in the application on Monday so message me quick! Please include the word "flamingo" :) I recorded a video at the viewing, so I can send it your way to get a real impression of the place! Then we can all hop on a video call and get a good sense of each other :)
We have also applied to a good few places in Berlin proper which would need extra people, so if we fail in this application then we might get something else lined up. In fact, as I've been typing this, we've received a call back from a big place that was our favourite before seeing this one. So let me know if you'd be interested in other places too, or instead!
