The apartment is a self contained studio, available on a fixed term basis for 6 to just under 12 months. While the apartment is furnished, soft furnishings (like bedsheets, towels etc, are not included).
Here's a breakdown of the costs mentioned above:
Kaltmiete (1000 eur) is the rent for the apartment. This does not include any utilities.
Nebenkosten mentioned above is Wohngeld is 189 eur (depending on usage), and includes water, hot water, heating and building maintenance. Warmmiete = Kaltmiete + Wohngeld = 1189 eur. This is what is typically quoted.
Additional bill - these are bills that are typically not included in Warmmiete (listed below). Due to the temporary nature of this rental, these will be in my name (i.e. you pay for the bills via me). Including these bills, the total is 1281 eur. Again, this is depending on usage.
- Internet - 36.99. This is cable internet with Vodafone, and is flat rate.
- Electricity - 55 based on 1,500 kWh/annum usage. This will obviously vary according to your usage.
Tv license are not included. This is flat rate at 55 eur per quarter (around 18 eur a month). You will be contacted when you do Anmeldung. Please pay them directly :)
The apartment is situated right in the city centre, 5 mins from Alexanderplatz station, right beside the hotel chain, Hampton by Hilton, among others.
In terms of our position to the surrounding neighbourhoods, to the north, we have Prenzlauer Berg, a lovely residential area with their local bars and restaurants. To the east, we have Karl-Marx-Allee, with an abundance of iconic architecture from the DDR times. To the west, we have Hackerscher Markt / Museum island (the name probably speaks for itself!). To the south, you can find Unter den Linden, the historical street in Berlin, leading to Brandenburg Gate and the civic district.
For transport, Alexanderplatz is one of the busiest transport hubs in Berlin, with long distance trains, local trains (U-bahn and S-bahn), trams, regional bus (Flixbus) as well as local bus connections. It is definitely one of most well-connected place in Berlin.
For grocery shopping, there is a supermarket just round the corner from the building, as well as a 24-hour convenience store and pizzeria right across the road. Our nearest gym, FitX, is 4 mins walk away, and there are at least 2 other options that I am aware of.
Having lived in this area myself, I have to say it is hard to find a better area that allows you to travel easily to any part of Berlin, and at the same time is in itself a lovely place to live in!
The flat itself is on the 9th floor, which offers a nice view towards Soho Haus and Prenzlauer Berg.
And yes, we have a lift :)
If you are interested, I look forward to hear from you.
