We came across this house through a friend. It belonged to his grandparents and we were able to negotiate an agreement with the heirs (his uncle and father) to live here safely for two years. There are two rooms to choose from that are still available. One of them is in the basement and therefore has the most privacy at around 18 square metres, but is rather dark. There is a music room on the same level with instruments and tools, a bathroom and access to the garage with wood workshop and the garden.
The other room is on the first floor with 9 square metres but faces south-east with lots of sun in the morning and old built-in wardrobes. Dor and Hana (as a couple in one room), Nick and Eliana (also as a couple in another room) and Rico live on the same floor.
Toni has been living in the light room and will be moving out at the end of January.
It's about a 20-minute walk from the Zehlendorf and Sundgauerstrasse S-Bahn stops. We live in a very quiet, green, bourgeois to classy housing estate. A small forest can be reached on foot in 5 minutes, the Grunewald and the lakes Krummenlanke and Schlachtensee in about 15-20 minutes by bike. But it's also a 20-minute walk to shops and all consumer goods (Zehlendorf S-Bahn).
We live here as an international group and therefore speak mainly English (people from Germany (Nick, Rico) israel (Dor Eliana) and the States (Hana)). This beautiful very old house with a huge garden and our very big, lovely and fluffy dog Secco. We are all Friends some longer, some less long. We moved in together as three couples. Nick and Eliana, Dor and Hana, Toni and Rico. Toni was unsure from the start whether she was ready for a housing project and realised after three months that she wanted to try out living alone again after so many years of living in a shared flat. We see this as a good opportunity to break up the couple dynamic and create a balance of individuals and couples. Our flat share is organised as a community and we like to spend time together when it feels good. That could be cooking, working in the garden, dancing in the basement, building a greenhouse, sitting by the fire, ... There's lots and lots of space for all kinds of projects. Nick and Dor regularly work from home and we have our own room for this. Eliana and Hana are studying and Rico is also thinking about doing a Master's degree. The ground floor is completely communal with two large living/dining rooms, the office, the kitchen, a toilet and the exit to the large terrace with the garden.
