Large room on the first floor of a group house. This room is partially furnished and is extremely well lit by its windows, and the garden below is full of flowers and vegetables. View looks out towards the front garden. Flatmates are students and young professionals who are all very ecologically minded. Just bring your clothes and sheets, everything else is here already (kitchen equipment, etc. and furniture that is in storage in the garage can be used). The furniture in the photo is from past tenant, but we have full sets of furniture and mattresses stored in the garage that can be used without extra cost.
On location, the tram stop is a 2-minute walk, and by bike Vauban is 3 minutes, downtown 5-6 minutes, and you can easily just walk as well. This is a very centrally located place.
This is an amazing neighborhood well connected to mass transit, and by bike or even by foot quickly to downtown or Vauban. I love there is so much so close, and sitting in the garden on a sunny day is refreshing. The room itself is bright and has lots of space, and the roommates are positive energy and like to build a community. We keep the basement rooms for ourselves as well as one room on the ground floor for ourselves, and although we are mainly out of Germany, we are there for part of the summer and may visit more frequently this year. There is a large garden and a lot of opportunity to grow your own produce. We highly encourage people interested in gardening and growing their own food to apply for a space.
The neighbors are friendly, and cars cannot drive fast on this street, and there is very little traffic, so it is also a quiet place.
VERY IMPORTANT, is that you read and agree to our vision for the house, as described in this Google Document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DPgP5tsiHJC87D6PsE5JsAvzXxdNicHyum5O4c3pZXc/edit?usp=sharing
We are in the process of restructuring the house and the remaining housemates do want to create a community feel. The last year the community feel was lost due to two of the housemates that really did not want to live in community, so as they leave we are seeking to rebuild this community feel that the house has had in the past. The remaining two housemates have been there for over two years each and understand better the community feel we are working to revive. We seek to bring back the idea that housemates often cook together or do other activities together, something we lost with the two housemates who are now leaving. So say hi, be friendly, make conversation, etc. :-)
It is important to us that you actively want to be part of a community and that in maintaining this space as a home you proactively contribute to doing chores, cleaning (even sometimes a deep clean!), scanning the mail for the owner of the house (we are outside of Germany most of the time), developing ideas to improve the house and tending the garden.
Also, the family that owns the house is here periodically, a lot in the summer, during the year for shorter visits, and we keep a room open for ourselves as well as the basement of the house (two adults plus kids). Sometimes visiting friends may stay in our room for short stays, in which case we'd ask you to simply open the door and let them in (we'd notify you in advance, and we only do this with friends we know very well and trust entirely).
This is both a pet and child friendly home. We have brought one of our dogs with us in the past and our friends may visit and stay overnight bringing their dog or dogs with them as well (by "our" I mean the family that owns the house).
Again, our vision for WG-Leben and the house rules, which are part of the contract for using our space, are described here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DPgP5tsiHJC87D6PsE5JsAvzXxdNicHyum5O4c3pZXc/edit?usp=sharing
All costs are included in the total price listed, including Internet, garbage fees (Müllgebühren) electric, heating, water, etc.
We (my wife and kids and I) are at the house periodically and keep a room on the ground floor as well as the basement open for ourselves for when we are in Freiburg, which is most often in the summer, but also for shorter visits during the year. We normally are outside of Germany.
