As my job contract runs out, I am looking for a neat, friendly and reliable student/young professional (preferably female) to take over my lease from March onwards. The current lease is until May but can be extended if desired.
The price is $975 (utilities included) with an extra $23 for internet.
About the flat:
The flat is a two-bedroom plus living room and I have been sharing it with a great flat mate (see below). It's an English basement but gets sunlight through the windows. The room is cosy and comes furnished with everything you need (desk, drawers, lamps, bed, wardrobe). There's also extra space in the living room to keep shoes and coats. The flat is newly refurbished and both kitchen and bathroom are new and in perfect condition (think powerful shower, great heating (!), great hobs/oven, microwave, huge fridge).
About the location:
Bloomingdale is DC's best up-and-coming area. The flat is in a townhouse on a quiet and very nice street where people put a lot of care into their houses (and impressive front gardens!). One of DC's best cafes (the Big Bear) is a 4 minute walk away and supplies excellent coffee, brunch and dinner - it quickly became my favourite hang-out in the area. There is a great famers' market on Sundays (also 4 min walk away) and there are new cafes/restaurants/bars opening in the sourrounding streets which are both good and decently-priced (the perk of living in an area that is about to become hip..).
Shaw Metro and NoMA are both in walking distance and there are great bus connections both downtown and into Columbia Heights/AdmMorgan etc. Best of all though, it's hill-free cycling to downtown which I have learned to value a lot!
About your new flat mate:
She's an extremely friendly and reliable Masters student. In the months we've lived together, there was not a single conversation about "could you please clean the bathroom/kitchen". We both got along really well and I always looked forward to coming home to our nightly kitchen conversation about everything ranging from American politics to the latest gossip.
Anfragen bitte per E-Mail. Besichtigung am besten abends. Für künftige DCler, können wir auch eine Skype-Besichtigung arrangieren.
One more thing:
If anything ever breaks (or even if the light bulb needs changing), the landlord is extremely helpful and if you call him, he's usually over in 10-15 minutes. He will not only to fix things but will also offer to build a ramp for your bike/install extra lights etc. That's been a huge plus. Lastly, the living room has large pull-out couch which is great to host the occasional guest.
