Please read the following *carefully*. Don't worry about not being the first to send a message. I'm still expecting messages while the ad is up. Most important points before going into details: I'm 28M, working from home, studied at HU Berlin earlier, moved from India 5y ago, kann Deutsch sprechen (hab gerade meine B2 Prüfung bestanden). Now:
I am looking for a flatmate starting February 1 for my ground floor apartment near S Neukölln. Long term with registration, contract, all official stuff. The apartment is located in a quiet neighborhood overlooking a courtyard, 5 minutes walk from S Neukölln (& supermarkets, stores, bars, etc.). Your room (room 2) is about 11 square meters. I realise it seems expensive, but I don't set the price 🤷 & I also pay a proportionately high amount (more on that at the end).
The apartment is furnished (kitchen without an oven), but your room doesn't have furniture (I can get you the essentials if you want, against a slightly higher surcharge). You can also bring your own furniture (details will be agreed upon when you come for a visit). The picture of your room is a bit older as it is currently occupied. I moved here in Sept '23, and completely furnished the flat with new furniture & appliances.
Rent: 554€ (incl. utilities) + half of the electricity costs + half of the wifi costs & radio tax + 95€ surcharge for the use of the appliances & all furniture. In total, you should expect a rent of 710€. Also, we share the cost of common things like cleaning supplies, garbage bags etc. The deposit would be double the rent, so let's say 1400€.
I will need the usual documents from you once you have viewed the apartment and agreed to rent it.

A little bit about me. I am 28 years old, was doing my math PhD at the HU Berlin till 2 years ago and now working as a software developer. I grew up in a small town and have moved cities a couple of times before coming to Berlin. I'm used to living together and am pretty easy going as a roommate. I am generally neat (without an obsession), and don't smoke / do drugs, and drink rarely. I work ~8h from home every weekday and cook often, after that I need to rest for a bit before going out -- point is I'm quite busy with my schedule. In my free time, I'm walking around the city, at the gym / library / yoga, playing volleyball (depending on weather) or sometimes going to a club. Please mention an asterisk ⭐️ at the beginning of your message so I know you've read the whole ad. Introduce yourself - where you're from, how old you are, what you do in Berlin, your hobbies and a little insight into your plans for the near future. You can also share your socials if you wish. I believe a pleasant co-living is based on *understanding* and *trust*. I've lived in lovely (memorable!) shared flats during my student days and also in some that were nowhere as nice, and having been apartment hunting myself until last year, I know how difficult it is in Berlin 🥲. I'll be showing you my main tenancy agreement for transparency etc and I'm open to discussions (to some extent) regarding anything you might need. I don't care about age, gender, beliefs, etc but do strictly expect a basic level of respectfulness and maturity. And you should have enough income / family support to comfortably pay the rent. From my experience, here's what kind of culture I'd like to have at home:
We'll get along well if you:
- are cool-headed, respectful and considerate. That is, you don't leave commonly used pans / pots dirty so that the other person has to clean them before they cook.
- know how to give and take feedback. You are open to share if something bothers you and you learn from other people's feedback. You don't try to stir shit up or try to win points or win an argument with irrelevant minutiae (i.e., you have maturity).
- communicate openly and promptly (i.e., you don't ignore messages for days). You will not waste my time.
- do give a shit about living together. It would be nice if we could be friends, talk together from time to time as our schedules permit, but it is OKAY to me to be in a purpose flat-share (but basic responsiveness / respectfulness is a must). Everybody has their own life / priorities and it's fine as long as there's some basic flat-sharing camaraderie.
- are not a cleanliness maniac (i.e., you are not nit-picky about a bit of dust in the corners of the flat nobody cares about etc). In my experience, if you have a job or are studying or are spending time outside, you probably will not have time to worry about inconsequential things...
- are a team player -- what do I mean by this? Living together should at best aid both our lives or should AT LEAST not create any additional burden. You are interested in solving any problem that arises, together, instead of playing politics, bullying or mind games.
- don't do drugs, heavy drinking, heavy smoking etc.
Now, written descriptions only go so far and a much better way to get to know someone is to meet them. So please send me a relevant message, come by, have a chat, have a look at the place and form your opinion.
Please note: I'm sure you're evaluating your other flat options, and I'd appreciate if you keep me posted *as soon as* you are no longer interested. Nothing is set in stone, till a contract has been signed and a "reservation" amount transferred. From my previous experience, some people change their mind at the very last minute, and this has led me to turn away others in the past -- this is bad.
All that being said, I look forward to a friendly and relaxed space to live together and create a sense of home :)
