The room is lit with sunshine, has a double bed, a large working table that can host all your projects, a hand-painted baroque-style wardrobe that actually hides a sofa for comfy reading within, a designer lamp, and a side table. The window gives to a lane crowned with a 16th century Franciscan church on top. The early 20th century ironwork of the mini-balcony that frames the window starts drawing intricate shadows on the room’s wall once it is afternoon. The mattress is of quality and comfortable, with an orthopedic pillow and all bed linen and towels. The windows are of double plastic, hence the room is insulated and as quiet as it gets in a city. There is an efficient, perfectly quiet and aesthetic white glass heater for the winter, and a cooler working on water and ice for the summer. The curtains are made of thick traditional Portuguese 100% wool that add a layer of heat and sound insulation in the winter, and keep the room cool in the summer.
The apartment:
The apartment is a lovingly crafted duplex in a centuries-old house, refurbished and fresh. Most furniture is hand-made, with a quirky design – and lots of mirrors. Our internet is 5G, with 500Mbps download and 100Mbps upload. The first floor has two rooms (one is yours), and the third room on the second floor. There is a royal-sized bathroom, a kitchen and a spacious corridor where we occasionally have dinners. We do have a quality music column for proper sound. The cleaning service of the entire apartment, all rooms included, is bi-weekly: we take house hygiene very seriously.
The bathroom:
The bathroom is arguably royal size, with a bathtub and a bidet. Staying true to minimalism, the space is not cluttered with a gazillion of shampoos and unidentified objects – rather, a few key items, and that is it.
The kitchen:
Our kitchen is quite big, has a cute “morning coffee and tea” corner in the balcony area facing a quiet garden, and a mid-sized table for everyday meals. It is equipped with a dishwater, a washing machine, an oven, a quality espresso coffee machine (we have a 30% discount to buy ground coffee from one of the best local cafes, if you need), a kettle, a cold juicer, mixers, and even a pasta maker. Also, quality pans, all thinkable cooking utensils, and aesthetic, coloured plates and cups.
What is included in the cost:
All bills, cleaning and the basics that everyone can share (toilet paper, spices, salt, pepper!)
The house is literally a few minutes away from the iconic Adamastor viewpoint. The most central metro station Baixa-Chiado is less than a 10 minute walk, while the mythical 28 tram stops across the street. The closest city bike “Gira” station is a 10-minute walk away, while there is also a safe space for a bike indoors. The most iconic coffee shops (the entire top 10 list, probably) are all in the neighbourhood, while the most beautiful wooden clad library is also just around the corner. Continente, three Minipreços and a few organic groceries are within a 10-min radius, plus a pragmatic local fruit store is one minute away.
Together with you we will be three people. We are both professionals, one working in the office, the other remotely from home, but with frequent trips that may last weeks. We are both rather quiet, love bikes, cook daily, and like to keep the kitchen in pristine condition. We enjoy our occasional convivial moments and having a few friends over, while respecting each other's space and needs. The apartment, without any tint of exaggeration, is a minimalist one. Everything you can find has a function - and we are eco-conscious, we have reusable bags for shopping, and we try not to buy anything that comes wrapped in plastic. We have an internal rule for visits: maximum two people, for a maximum of one week.
Who we are looking for:
- vaccinated (a must)
- non-smoker (non-negotiable)
- no animals (we love them, but can not accept any, unfortunately)
- minimalist (you embrace the philosophy and live by it)
- eco-minded (we actively refuse to buy anything in plastic, we reuse and recycle)
- you truly appreciate cleanliness and wish to contribute to keeping the house clean
- the room is strictly for one person, we cannot accept couples
For us it is not just renting a room; we are looking for someone to live with, so it is not about optimising on price but rather finding the right person. Please write about yourself, who you are, what moves you to get out of bed each morning, what you value. We will then schedule a visit, or if you are not yet in Lisbon, a video call. We won’t be able to respond to generic "Hi, I'm interested, when can I visit" messages, we really want to know more about you:) Looking forward to meeting you!
