The Room
The room is very spacious and filled with natural light, especially in the mornings. It has a quiet, cozy feel, as it faces the courtyard rather than the street.
Storage: A built-in IKEA Boaxel shelving system with 12 freestanding shelves, plus a large overhead storage section for long-term items. Three clothes hooks and three baskets for laundry or smaller clothing items.
Workspace: An IKEA gaming sit-stand desk, one of the highest-quality models IKEA offers. It’s fully set up and plugged in, ready to use. There is also an LG 4K monitor, which you’re welcome to use. It belongs to Ibi, but he doesn’t currently need it—though he might take it back at some point.
Seating: There is no desk chair since Ibi only used the standing desk, but there are chairs in the living room that you’re welcome to use if needed. There is a comfortable sofa for relaxing.
Bed: There will also be an IKEA 140x200 cm mattress, high quality (originally about €300 from IKEA), and seven months old.
Lighting: Fully integrated Philips Hue smart lighting, controlled via a button or app. Some of the lights can change color. The room has four ceiling spotlights and two additional side lights.
Flooring: Wooden floorboards with a bit of a creak, but easy to get used to.
Atmosphere: The room is quiet and private, not facing any main roads. It has a peaceful view of the courtyard and a warm, cozy feel.
It’s a great space for someone who wants a comfortable, well-equipped room with plenty of storage and a high-quality workspace.
Our WG is on the third floor of an Altbau in Lüneburg, and it’s probably one of the nicest shared flats in the city.
Living space: A massive living room with a 55-inch 4K Ultra HD TV, an awesome sound system, and a super comfy sofa
Dining area: A huge dining table that can fit up to 15 people
Bathrooms: Two toilets—one inside the flat and one just outside the front door, both private and shared among the flatmates
Kitchen: Spacious, with plenty of unused storage, a dishwasher (so we like to keep it clean), and everything you’d need
Balconies: One shared balcony (which has a barbecue that Ibi loves to use) and another private one in Sid’s room
Building: A secure building where we know all the neighbors—our friends live in the flat upstairs, and they’re all American. A cellar, which doubles as a gym and has extra storage space.
Plus
A washing machine
A delonghi Mangnifica S Coffee Machine
A high-pressure shower that gets nice and warm
A pottery studio in Franzi’s room, since she’s a master potter
A Nintendo Switch and a PlayStation 2 in the living room
Plenty of space for co-working, with lots of sockets for laptops—Sid and Ibi usually work from the living room
Philips Hue smart lighting throughout the flat, making it feel very futuristic.
A massive collection of board games and card games.
Tons of things for The Lanimoomoo (the cat) to play with
Franzi (27) – PhD student at Leuphana University, studying sustainability and management. She manages the rental agreement and the relationship with the real estate agent.
Ibi (26) – Management consultant, freelance, working remotely. He’s Franzi’s boyfriend and will only be around about half the time over the next few months due to work travel.
Sid (26) – A friend of Ibi and Franzi from London. Also remote working, mostly from the WG.
Minou (20) – First-year student at Leuphana, studying Global Environmental Sciences and Sustainability.
The Lanimoomoo (3) – The real queen of the house. A very fluffy, very social cat who will make friends with you immediately. Occasionally does a stinky fart.
We only speak English in the flat because Ibi and Sid don’t speak German.
This room used to be Ibi’s office, but since he’ll be working from a co-working space and traveling on and off over the coming months, he doesn’t need it anymore. The room originally was a bedroom, then became an office, and now it’s back to being a bedroom again—this time for someone new to move in.
