Hello!
I’m subletting this lovely ground floor apartment from a nice family, and my roommates are moving out December 3 as they are leaving Berlin. I’m looking for someone to move in either before Dec 16 or January 10-20th for ~3 months (flexible) – possibly until July if we match as roommates.
Your room is quite large, with a king bed (160cm x 200cm) but no desk currently. The mattress is on proper tatami mats, not on the floor. Photos make it look smaller than it is - I think because the bed is so big? I guessed on the room measurement.. All furniture will stay in the room - though I could get rid of the dresser if preferred (since it is mine).
The rent for the room is €1150/month for one person (no couples, FLINTA* preferred).
See "Miscellaneous" for more info and questions
We're quite close to Karl Marx Str and 4 mins walking from U Karl-Marx - so lots of shopping and options nearby. Luckily the flat is very quite though, so we don't hear a lot of street noise
Fun things about the flat:
- New build, cute, and very spacious (114 m2)
- Huge windows make it nice and bright
- Two bathrooms!
- Dish washer
- Washer and dryer
- Surprisingly quiet location, especially given it is just off Karl Marx Str
- Quiet patio and garden (photos from earlier this month)
- Great location, near U Karl-Marx-Str.
- Bike room
- Friendly neighbours with a community feeling
- No TV (this is a positive for me haha)
- Plants!
- Some fancy passive heating means the building is always a nice temperature. Wifi and heating included in rent.
Less fun things about the flat:
- Complicated care (e.g., some tiles can only take special soaps and we have to be careful to avoid water damage on the wood counters)
- Antique furniture is delicate and can be broken (€)
- Quiet building means no parties
- I already have a large deposit down (€5000), so you will need to pay one month rent as deposit
- No microwave
- The apartment gets dusty quite quickly? So maybe not a good place for someone sensitive to that (though of course we clean frequently)
- If you lose the keys we have to replace the locks and keys for the whole building (€€)
- No pets
About me:
- Female, 33, I work for an NGO doing police reform and travel quite a bit… I’m originally from Nova Scotia, but left my hometown in 2009 and left Canada in 2014
- I recently moved here from Beirut, but I have a network of friends here that keep me pretty busy
- I’m an introverted extrovert… which means I like to be social but also need a lot of recharge time alone or with a book. I love this flat because, Berlin (and my life) is a bit hectic, and I feel like it is a little oasis
- I’m a morning person, outdoorsy, love to exercise – my wild party days are mostly in the past, though I take advantage of some of the weird and wonderful options in Berlin
- I got a large flat because I have friends and family who visit (in spare room, not pictured) – so hopefully you do not mind that. This means someone might come stay for 4-7 days once a month ish (or less often) - more likely I will be visited in the spring tbh.
- I have lived in Afghanistan, Trinidad, South Korea, Guatemala, US, and Lebanon … and worked in ~10 other countries.
- I like to cook – though I’m a little boring since I eat very clean. I am not a vegetarian
- I am clean and very tidy – a cluttered environment stresses me out and is bad for my mental health
- I don’t speak German!
- I'm off to Canada mid Dec to early Jan, hence the awkward date start range
About you:
- You’re in your late 20s to mid 30s.. maybe, like me, you used to party but now you’re looking for a peaceful home environment
- You do not work from home. You have a regular job that takes you out of the house at least 3-4 days per week. I work from home (office not pictured) and it’s a requirement for me that you are not home during the day all the time
- You want a warm, cozy home environment, and you don’t mind taking care of a finnicky flat with me
- Maybe you enjoy caring for plants and will give them love when I’m travelling for work
- You don’t mind that I occasionally have guests staying in the spare room
- NO SMOKERS! I’m very sensitive to the scent
- You have some way of showing you're not worried about paying for the rent
