🌿 Geteilter Wohnraum in Greifswald 🌿

Wir leben hier mitten im Zentrum der Greifswalder Altstadt, nah an Markt, Bäckereien, Drogerien, Pizzerien, ... in einer größeren, angemieteten Altbauwohnung (knapp 200 m2), die einige Ideen einer FuWo umzusetzen versucht. Die Wohngemeinschaft ist aktuell ein experimenteller Spielraum, der sich im Alltag immer wieder auch weiterentwickelt, sich anpasst und ausprobiert. Insgesamt ist der Ort noch recht jung (seit Sommer 2022) und es sind noch Gestaltungs-Möglichkeiten offen.

FuWo was?

Wer braucht Privatsphäre? – Vermutlich alle. Nicht immer, aber mindestens wohl von Zeit zu Zeit. Wann und für wie lange braucht es dazu ein eigenes Zimmer? – Das versuchen wir gerade gemeinsam herauszufinden.
In einer "FuWo" – einer "funktionalen Wohngemeinschaft".

Der Ausdruck irritiert vielleicht, scheint es doch so ähnlich zu klingen wie "Zweck-WG". Es bedeutet aber tatsächlich eher das Gegenteil. Dabei wird versucht, möglichst viele Ressourcen miteinander zu teilen – vor allem materiell – und dabei die Räume einer Wohnung nicht einzelnen Personen zuzuschreiben, sondern bestimmten Funktionen.

Die Miete für unsere Wohnung ist fix. Aber wer wieviel davon bezahlt, bestimmen wir über ein Bietersystem.

*FuWo, what’s that?*

Who needs privacy? – Most likely everyone. Not always, but at least from time to time. When and for how long is an own room necessary in this purpose? – That’s what we’re trying to find out together in a “FuWo” – a “functional flat-sharing community”

Maybe the term is irritating, since the expression “functional” seems to refer to a “Zweck-WG” (Zweck-WG is a common german expression for flat-sharing communitys who simply live to together for the purpose of saving money, but are not focusing on the community aspects). But it rather means the opposite. The functional living concept aims to share as many resources as possible – especially material resources – while assigning the rooms not to a single person but to certain functions.

*The flat-sharing community*

We’re living here in the inner city of Greifswald in a bigger, rented flat (round about 200 m2), where we try to realize some of the ideas of a “FuWo”. At the moment, the community is a experimental space, which is developing, trying out and adapting during the daily life. Altogether the place is quite young (since summer 2022) and there are a lot of open possibilities to shape the community.

*The crew*

We’re more or less 6 people of different age (20’s to 50’s).

We’re not always going our ways through life completely straight and are allowing ourselves spontaneous and unpredictable side-routes.
Daily life and job routines of most of us here are rather not conventionally planned, that’s why different people are spending sometimes more time in the flat and sometimes less.

Currently we’re using the place in many different ways.

• We’re maintaining a respectful and loving togetherness. Communication and the openness to negotiate different needs together are important skills in life – in a “FuWo” this is even more important.

• Our community is queer-aware and different perspectives on life are important to us.

• We are trying to hold our place mainly drug-free and we’re trying to live as environmental-friendly as possible.

• We see ourselves as people with attitude and are using possibilities to participate in social debates. We’re curios on life and have interests that are connected to upcycling, nature and art.

• We like to collect objects with a story, with traces or helpful functions – but still minimalism is possible when you’re staying with us. We tend to have a creative order system, because we sort together a lot of our belongings.

• We share the costs (rent and food) for our living on a solidarity basis (according to each one’s possibilities).

• We like to have a open door for guests, spontaneous visitors, sometimes also group activities. It can be a bustling place sometimes, but it is often also surprisingly quiet.

• We do not avoid political discussions, but it is important to us not to be dogmatic.

Currently all members are white (first language german) and have mainly academic backgrounds.

This is not meant to continue like this. The opposite is the case: we’re enjoying to get to know new perspectives and ways to look at life.

*And you?*

We’d like to welcome 1-3 people give the possibility to participate and live in those rooms to since more “space” here will be available from December 2024 on.

The first step is to find people who would consider the FuWo-life as an option. Since this serves already as an overall “filter” for potentially interested persons, we’d like to leave other aspects open. We can say more after getting to know each other and potentially trying out living together for a some time.

Everyone who lives here would describe differently what we’re looking for and what constitutes our togetherness. The community will surely change with new members.
