IMPORTANT LOGISTICAL NOTES:
- We are an international house and all of our main communication is done in English, so if you send us a message in German, we know you copy and pasted it :)
- We are currently looking for people interested in staying in the house ideally till End of February but this can be extended easily.
- Ideal move-in would be the 1st of August 2024
The house was built in the 1940s and has 3 floors plus a basement. We are lucky enough that the house is owned by a non-profit foundation, which is why the rent is quite cheap for central Munich.
The room is on the ground floor of the building, which you share with 2 other people. It is 12-ish sqm. The room can fit a bed, a desk, and all your clothing/storage needs. Your floor has a separate toilet and shower as well as a hallway with enough space to comfortably fit drying racks for clothes.
There is one catch, the room has an entrance via the bathroom (Just the bathroom/shower no toilet is in there ) which is shared by 2 others, This situation can be explained or shown better during the casting!
The house has a large kitchen/dining room (with 3 fridges, 2 freezers, 8 stove tops and 2 ovens) and a large living room (with a beamer and screen we use frequently for movie nights), as well as a shared garden filled with trees and squirrels and large balcony. We use all of these on a daily basis to eat and socialize. We also have a shared techno/dance room for parties in the basement a rock climbing/bouldering wall in the attic. We have three toilets and three showers (on the ground floor and 1st floor the showers and toilets are in separate rooms, on the 2nd floor they are in the same room). We also have laundry in the basement.
The house is an older detached villa and in a quiet residential neighbourhood of Bogenhausen.
The house is a 5 minute walk from the Richard-Strauß Straße shopping centre (which has Aldi, Edeka, Aral, Rossman, Döner, Vapiano, La Österia, etc). A 5 minute walk in the other direction will bring you to Herkomerplatz which has a number of specialty shops (Baker, Butcher, etc.).
The closest public transportation options are the Richard-Strauß Straße station (U4; 59 187, 188 and 189 buses), Wehrlestraße bus station (54 and 68 bus lines; N44 night bus), and Herkomerplatz (trams 16, 37, and night tram N17). You can reach all of {Englischergarten, Müchner Freiheit, Universität, Karlsplatz, Hauptbahnhof} all within 10-15 minutes on public transport during peak hours. Also we are in a perfect area for bicycling.
We are a motley crew and like to maintain an open and communal coexistence in our WG. Currently in the house, we have: two astrophysicists, a dancer, a juggler, two surfers, a magician, many cyclists, a lawyer, a couple of book worms, world travelers, some amazing cooks, and at least one expert techno DJ (depending on how you define “expert”).
We have housemates from all over the world (Germany, India, South Korea, Costa Rica, Turkey, USA). You should be open to learning about new cultures and living harmoniously with people regardless of background. Particularly, we explicitly want a welcoming house and do not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia or any discriminatory attitudes.
Around the house we like to embody the phrase “the more the merrier;” we frequently have guests coming over and of course welcome you bringing the same community spirit to the WG. There is something social happening almost every weekend and occasionally on week nights as well.
The house is an active project, so we are looking for someone who will participate in both the fun parts of shared flat life (cooking, parties, game nights, movie nights, just general having fun together) AND the upkeep of the house (the shared cleaning schedule, small projects to improve life around the house etc).
We have a shared cleaning schedule which should be followed as well as monthly WG meetings to keep the house in order and also work on nice projects together (e.g. we are currently planning on improving our garden so we can grow vegetables to eat)
The house is a mix of smokers and non-smokers. Smoking is allowed in the backyard.
We also feed and take care of a stray neighbourhood cat. We have his bed and feeding area in a shed in the backyard (some of us are allergic to the cat).
