The room is located in a beautiful, elegant, well-preserved Art Nouveau apartment on the first floor of a historic building built before World War I (approx. 1900). It faces the inner courtyard, so it is very quiet and cozy. It has very high ceilings, antique Art Nouveau window frames, classy pitch pine floorboards and a beautiful, clean atmosphere. The apartment is really huge, so there is enough space for privacy.
The room is rented unfurnished
We also have a shared guest room or a cozy sleeping area with a double bed mattress above the bathroom, our "bear niche". Friends & guests are very welcome!
Our representative "mansion" has a marble-clad entrance, 7 bedrooms, ceilings around 4 m high, is very bright and contains charming, characteristic Art Nouveau elements such as so-called coffered wooden doors, skirting boards and partly antique decorated heaters. Our 3 corridors have pitch pine floorboards and herringbone parquet. Since all rooms are directly connected to it, there are no through rooms, which is particularly suitable for a shared apartment. Only if you want to go to the loggia, you walk through the so-called "loggia room" after knocking.
Our kitchen-living room is also particularly suitable for shared apartments. We have 1 shower room (with shower + toilet), 1 full bath (with bathtub + toilet), a lumber room and 2 garden-like courtyards: one with a mighty chestnut tree and open-air bicycle parking spaces protected from the street; the other with a magnificent mini-villa. Both with a huge (dining) table and benches. We love to spend time here during the warmer months, whether to eat, smoke, chat or breathe in some of Berlin's natural air. Foxes sometimes come to visit us, as if from another world.
By the way, we love parties. For example, we have agreed that everyone (m/f/d) can throw an announced shared flat party at least once a year. At the same time, we are a shared flat that needs peace and quiet in everyday life. Therefore, we usually ensure that there is particular peace and quiet between 9 p.m. and 10 a.m., for example, music and conversations are only played at a reasonable volume, all apartment doors remain closed, etc. Guests are always welcome, we just ask that their visit and duration be announced by name as soon as possible - not just for overnight guests. This way we can prepare for the guests.
You and your (party) guests are welcome to smoke in our garden-like courtyards or in our loggia. Please do not smoke in the room, not even by the open window: Unfortunately, tobacco smoke sticks to walls and travels from the room into large parts of the apartment (odor nuisance).
Overall, the apartment and shared flat is, there is no other way to put it, a kind of winning the lottery.

Sorted by move-in date:
❤ JUS *1986, founded this shared apartment in 2020 out of social, political & ethical convictions. Works as a written interpreter, non-tango DJ, high school teacher (mwd). Is mostly with her:his boyfriend in Hamburg.
❤ FELIX *1994, studies aerospace engineering at the TU Berlin ( ROOM TO RENT).
❤ SNEEDON, studies, lives in a sublet.
❤ MEI *2000, is learning German at a language school and is already applying for a master's degree.
❤ JAN *1986, social worker.
❤ JURI *1997, is studying law and is working for refugees.
❤ You - we are looking for a roommate who lives in an environmentally conscious and sustainable way, treats the common rooms and objects with respect, thinks critically and above all independently, strives for personal development and is benevolent, reliable, considerate, clean, tidy, hardworking, honest, humorous, unifying, able to deal with conflict and responsible and has sunshine in their hearts. :)
By "critical thinking" we mean, among other things, that you not only inform yourself from different sources, but especially from different views and opinions; you also try to understand them thoroughly and ultimately form your own opinion.
.. We are humorous, liberal (walking naked in the apartment is expressly permitted, even if only occasionally), hospitable. When we are all at home, some of us like to cook or eat together, talk, play, discuss (with or without arguments), laugh. Of course, we sometimes retreat too.
.. We have a cleaning schedule. Once a month there is an indispensable shared flat meeting to exchange general praise, criticism and other suggestions.
.. Even if there seems to be no need for it - our shared flat council offers the opportunity to give repressed topics a space on a scheduled basis, etc. It is well known that communication is essential for a comfortable community. The type and frequency also matter. In the shared flat council we get the opportunity to regularly put our theoretical knowledge about the importance of perfectly functioning communication into practice, because the importance of communication that runs smoothly is usually underestimated or ignored for other reasons.
.. We love parties, but we're a shared apartment that needs peace and quiet in everyday life. That's why we make sure it's particularly quiet between 9 p.m. and 10 a.m., for example music and conversations only at room volume, kitchen door remains closed, etc.
WE INTRODUCE OURSELVES (including self-criticism if necessary), arranged chronologically after moving into the shared apartment.
❤ JUS (*1986):
Coming from a warm-hearted, very hospitable, Romanian multi-generational household (grandmother, parents, 4 siblings), a family environment is very important to me. I allow myself to be chaotic in my room, but I attach great importance to order and cleanliness in the common rooms. I live a "flexigan" lifestyle (between vegetarian and vegan), and I don't smoke or drink. I'm particularly enthusiastic about sustainable, cruelty-free and healthy products, for example I make my own. For example, I make my own vegan & biodegradable natural soaps as well as vegan cheese, sunscreen, deodorants, toothpaste, shampoos, etc.; ferment vegetables; & am generally a big fan of zero waste. I am very happy about Berlin's huge, unconventional tango scene, because I am genderqueer (my personal pronoun is preferably "it") & have been dancing tango since 2012: For me, a successful combination of music, sport & meditation. Since 2024, I have been working as a non-tango DJ in Hamburg & Berlin. I am also available for jam sessions & other musical (dance) events: jazz, soul, rock, electro, tango, forró, classical music, "world" music, etc. I sing, play the flute & violin myself. Other hobbies: languages (I speak 8 fluently); art; short & documentary films; philosophy; literature; theater; psychology; traveling (also hitchhiking & couchsurfing). I like to surround myself with kind, sincere, humorous, fun-loving & horizon-broadening people & I like to do nice things together. I would be happy to pursue some of my hobbies with flatmates. I would describe myself as honest, curious, benevolent, conscientious, conflict-solving oriented, humorous, extroverted, balanced & cheerful. I like to get involved politically, culturally & socially.
Self-criticism, among others:
💚 I want to train myself to be punctual; e.g. I am usually about 10-15 minutes late for appointments.
💚 I want to get a grip on my time management (or whatever the underlying problem is), I occasionally seek professional help because I procrastinate excessively & unfortunately this sometimes affects others around me too.
💚 I should sometimes speak more gently, sometimes I am uncomfortable in my tone or tact, especially when I feel misunderstood or unfairly treated. I want to continue to make my tone more friendly.
❤ FELIX (*1994):
I am studying my Masters at TU Berlin. I have only been in Berlin for a year and a half and I really like the city. I like going to the lakes or parks to enjoy nature. Camping and hiking are also some of my favorite activities. I also like going to bars or parties with friends to meet new people. I am from Tijuana, Mexico. I also really enjoy cooking and trying new dishes.
❤ MEI (*2000):
Hi, I'm Mei, 24 years old, from China. I am currently learning German at a language school and preparing to apply for a Masters in Philosophy in Berlin. My interests include hiking, camping, calligraphy, photography, tai chi, musicals and visiting museums. Favorite music: Kunqu opera, jazz, rock, classical, musicals. Favorite reading: philosophy, classical literature, poetry, drama, mysticism. Lifestyle: I like quiet environments, I like cooking at home and I appreciate deep conversations. Neatness and cleanliness are important to me.
Self-criticism:
💚 The balance between myself and others is a constant struggle for me.
💚 I want to be disciplined, but I still seem to find it difficult to manage my time precisely.
💚 I like to take risks and often put myself in dangerous situations.
💚 In my old apartment, my way of cooking often produced too much smoke, but recently I've been trying to cook a little more simply because it's easy and quick.
